  • The Mortimer Siegel, MD Award in 1985 - was conferred on Dr. Lissauer in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of medical education at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center
  • 1990 First Free-Standing Physician Owned Endoscopy Center Opened - after months of research, the physician owners of GAC completed construction on a 2 procedure room endoscopy center with 5 admit/recovery beds.
  • 1993 Only GI Private Practice performing Clinical Research
  • 2005 First In-House Pathology Laboratory in a Gastroenterologists' Office - after many months of planning. The physicians began operation of their own anatomic pathology laboratory with a full-time GI trained pathologist on staff.

Dr. Mario D. Kamionkowski, MD, FACG, FACP

 
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Kamionkowski studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires Medical School before coming to the United States to participate in a rotating internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Cleveland.

He completed his medical residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Cleveland. From there, he joined Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital (now The MetroHealth System) as resident in charge of gastroenterology, where he also completed his fellowship training. His early work experiences were at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital, and Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, Israel. Dr. Kamionkowski is the former Chief of Gastroenterology at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio having served from 1983 to 1994.

Dr. Kamionkowski has interests in the following gastrointestinal problems:
  • Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Ulcer Disease

Dr. Kamionkowski is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology and the Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is board certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine.

Dr. Jack S. Lissauer, MD

 
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Lissauer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine

He completed his internship and residency at the University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics in Chicago, Illinois. Moving to Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Lissauer entered the fellowship training program in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 1974 and 1976. Immediately upon graduation, he joined Gastroenterology Associates of Cleveland. For many years, Dr. Lissauer was an attending physician teaching in the gastroenterology fellowship program at Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1992, Dr. Lissauer received a commendation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for his clinical excellence and outstanding abilities as a teacher. Again, in 2003, Dr. Lissauer received a Public Service Achievement Award for providing outstanding healthcare service to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Glenn Research Center employees.

An avid collector of contemporary art, Dr. Lissauer is responsible for the current selection of art hanging throughout our office, many from his personal collection.
Dr. Jack S. Lissauer, MD

Dr. Michael H. Frankel, MD

 
A Cleveland native, Dr. Frankel completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh graduating Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Returning to Cleveland, Dr. Frankel completed his fellowship in gastroenterology through the Case Western Reserve University combined University Hospitals and the Cleveland VA Hospital Program.

Currently, Dr. Frankel is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Under his leadership the GI Division was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 50 in the country. He is the immediate past Chief of Staff of the Hillcrest Hospital Medical Staff and serves as the Hillcrest Hospital medical Staff representative to the Ohio State Medical and American Medical Associations. Throughout his career, he has received numerous honors and awards as one of the top gastroenterologists in the greater Cleveland area and the United States. He serves on many charitable and medical advisory boards.

Dr. Brian M. Kirsh, MD

 
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Kirsh graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and went on to the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio to earn his Medical Degree.

His internship and residency in internal medicine was completed at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Kirsh has interests in the following gastrointestinal problems:
  • Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Biliary Tract Disease (Gallbladder and Liver)
  • Colonoscopy, Upper Endoscopy and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

At the present time, Dr. Kirsh serves as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, Ohio.
Dr. Brian M. Kirsh, MD

Dr. Jeffrey D. Gellis, D.O.


Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Dr. Gellis did undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and earned his Osteopathic Medical Degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
 
His residency was completed at the Graduate Hospital, in affiliation with the Drexel/Hahnemann University College of Medicine Program in Philadelphia. Dr. Gellis completed fellowship training in gastroenterology at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, a principal affiliate of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
 
Dr. Gellis has interests in the following gastrointestinal problems:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorders and Barrett's Esophagus
  • Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. McNally graduated from Youngstown State University and went on to attend the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio.
 
Her residency and fellowship training in gastroenterology was at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. After achieving her Board Certification in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, she worked for Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown for two years and then relocated to Cleveland to work as a staff physician at the Main Campus of the Cleveland Clinic, specializing in Inflammatory Bowel Disorders.
