Dr. Jack S. Lissauer, M.D.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Lissauer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine

He completed his internship and residency at the University of Chicago Hospital and Clinics in Chicago, Illinois. Moving to Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Lissauer entered the fellowship training program in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 1974 and 1976. Immediately upon graduation, he joined Gastroenterology Associates of Cleveland. For many years, Dr. Lissauer was an attending physician teaching in the gastroenterology fellowship program at Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1992, Dr. Lissauer received a commendation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for his clinical excellence and outstanding abilities as a teacher. Again, in 2003, Dr. Lissauer received a Public Service Achievement Award for providing outstanding healthcare service to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Glenn Research Center employees.

Dr. Michael H. Frankel, M.D.

A Cleveland native, Dr. Frankel completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh graduating Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Returning to Cleveland, Dr. Frankel completed his fellowship in gastroenterology through the Case Western Reserve University combined University Hospitals and the Cleveland VA Hospital Program.

Currently, Dr. Frankel is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Under his leadership the GI Division was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 50 in the country. He is the immediate past Chief of Staff of the Hillcrest Hospital Medical Staff and serves as the Hillcrest Hospital medical Staff representative to the Ohio State Medical and American Medical Associations. Throughout his career, he has received numerous honors and awards as one of the top gastroenterologists in the greater Cleveland area and the United States. He serves on many charitable and medical advisory boards.

Dr. David J. Weinerman, MD

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Weinerman graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. Following medical school, Dr. Weinerman continued his training in internal medicine through internship and residency at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University.  He then specialized in gastroenterology and completed his fellowship at the Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Disease Division of the New York Medical College. His research topics have included evaluating diagnostic tests related to pancreatic cystic lesions and physician practices related to the management of patients with Hepatitis C.

Additional Professional Staff

James J. Andrassy, M.Ed, PA-C

Mr. Andrassy holds a B.S. in Allied Health and graduated with honors from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He holds an M.Ed. from Cleveland State University where his master’s project was entitled, “Advanced Computer Applications in Medical Educational Systems”. He received his degree as a Physician’s Assistant from Cuyahoga Community College in 1977, where he graduated top of his class in one of the first Physician Assistant Programs in the State of Ohio.

Prior to joining Gastroenterology Associates of Cleveland in 1993, he worked for Urology Services, Incorporated for 12 years as their hospitalist at the old Saint Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to that,  he worked in the Employee Health Clinic at University Hospitals of Cleveland for 5 years.

Mr. Andrassy oversees the day to day operations of Gastroenterology Associates of Cleveland and the Cleveland Center for Digestive Health & Endoscopy as the Practice Administrator and HIPAA Security/Privacy Officer. Even though Mr. Andrassy works in a non-clinical capacity at this time, he still maintains all of his clinical certifications and if called upon can easily fill in for one of our physicians.

Did you know that Jim has played guitar for more than 40 years, his interests are Blues, Jazz and  Fingerstyle Piedmont Blues and Slide guitar.

Joanne T. Longbons, PA-C

Ms. Longbons holds a B.A. degree in Medical Sciences from Lake Erie College, in 1980, at which time she received her Certificate of Completion from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Lake Erie College Physician Assistant Program. Immediately after graduation she worked for Lakewood Hospital in Lakewood, Ohio for 5 years. She then worked for the Cleveland Clinic/Lake Erie College Physician Assistant Program, eventually advancing to the Director’s position.
Afterwards, Joanne was employed by the Lake Hospital Systems in Lake County for several years; as well as Logistics Health out of La Crosse, Wisconsin where she worked as part of a team preparing our military troops medically for deployment to the Middle East.
For many years, Joanne worked in the University Hospitals Urgent Care Clinics. In the late 1990’s, she worked directly with Dr. Frankel’s patients for 3 years before “retiring” to be a stay-at-home mom. She rejoined Dr. Frankel in 2009 and works part-time in the direct care of his patients.
